Learning Unit - Digital Electronics

Materials:
- "Mr Circuit 2 - Digital Magic" Electronic Lab - Each Lab is equipped with an activity
booklet and all the necessary components
Outcomes:

Day 1- Introduction to Digital
- Choose a partner (The teacher reserves the right to arrange groups)
- Each group is assigned a digital electronics kit and is responsible for that kit for the
duration of this unit.
- Take an inventory of your kit by looking at page 2 of your manual.
- Review the "troubleshooting guide".
- Read pages 4 through 9.
- Teacher will discuss the contents of pages 4 through 9 with the group.
- Read through and complete the experiment on pages 10 & 11 the "AND" Logic Gate.
- Show your working circuit to your teacher.
- Write a brief summary of your findings. This summary must include a truth table and
boolean equation.
- Give your teacher your summary.
- Take inventory and return your electronics kit.
Day 2 -"OR" Gate
- Read through and complete the experiment on pages 11 & 12 the "OR" Logic Gate.
- Show your working circuit to your teacher.
- Write a brief summary of your findings. This summary must include a truth table and
boolean equation.
- Give your teacher your summary.
- Take inventory and return your electronics kit.
Day 3 - "Yes" & "Not"Gate
- Read through and complete the experiment on pages 14 & 15 "the NOT & YES Logic
Gate.
- Show your working circuit to your teacher.
- Write a brief summary of your findings. This summary must include a truth table and
boolean equation for both gates.
- Give your teacher your summary.
- Take inventory and return your electronics kit

Day 4 - "NOR" Gate
- Read through and complete the experiment on pages 16 & 17 the NOR Logic Gate.
- Show your working circuit to your teacher.
- Write a brief summary of your findings. This summary must include a truth table and

Day 5 - Integrated Circuits & "Nand" Gate
- Read through and complete the experiment on pages 18 - 20 Integrated Circuits and the
NAND Logic Gate.
- Show your working circuit to your teacher.
- Write a brief summary of your findings. This summary must include a truth table and
boolean equation.
- Give your teacher your summary.
- Take inventory and return your electronics kit.
Day 6 Written Assignment & Test
- On a sheet of paper do the following:
- Summarize pages 4 & 5.
- Show a truth table and boolean equation for the AND, OR, NOT, NOR & NAND gates.
- Give this work to your teacher.
- During the last 30 minutes of this class you are to take the written test.
- Here are the rules:
- You will have only the test site open on your computer
- You will have all papers off your desk and all books put away.
- Do this now. If there are books, papers or other webpages minimized or open on your
desktop - you will receive a "0" "zero" on the written test.
- This test must be written at this time or under the teacher's supervision at a selected
time.

- Read through and complete the experiment on pages 38-39 The Seven-Segment Display
